Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

After surgery, you may still struggle to walk, bend your knee or know how much exercise to do. At Checkpoint, we plan rehabilitation around your surgeon’s instructions and the activities you want to get back to.

Who this is for

  • Recovering after bone, joint or ligament surgery with physiotherapy recommended by your doctor
  • Difficulty with walking, sitting and standing, stairs or simple daily tasks
  • Wanting to rebuild strength for work or exercise

What we work on with you

Restore range of movement

Practise movement and gradually improve your range within the limits appropriate to your operation and stage of recovery.

Practise everyday tasks

Work on getting up, walking and stairs, including using an aid if needed.

Rebuild strength

Progress muscle training and activity as your recovery allows.

Enquire about post-surgical rehab

Working towards exercise after surgery

If your goal goes beyond comfortable walking, tell us what you want to train for. That goal can inform rehabilitation without overriding surgical restrictions.

Weight training

Prepare movement and loading before increasing weights as recovery allows.

Running

Build strength and weight-bearing tolerance in the relevant muscles before restarting running when you are ready.

Sport

Plan a progression from daily tasks towards the demands of your sport.

Time since surgery alone does not establish readiness for training. The operation, restrictions and assessment all matter.

What to expect at your first visit

  1. Discuss and assess

Start with your health history, difficulties and goals.

  2. Agree your care

Discuss the findings and an appropriate plan before starting care.

  3. Plan longer-term rehabilitation

Talk through practice, activity adjustments and follow-up.

Before your visit

Tell us the type and date of your operation. Bring your surgeon’s instructions, referral and any available reports.

Questions before booking

Have another question? Ask the team before booking.

When can I start physiotherapy?

It depends on your operation and your doctor’s instructions. Share those details before booking so the assessment can be planned appropriately. If your doctor allows it and there are no specific restrictions, rehabilitation can continue after discharge, with exercises suited to your stage of recovery.

Which operations can you help with?

Tell us the procedure and body area before booking so we can confirm whether the clinic can support your recovery.

How many visits will I need?

Your physiotherapist will assess your needs and goals first. The plan and number of visits may change as you recover.

What does it cost?

Ask the team about current fees, inclusions and appointment duration before confirming a booking.
